RAMI wants to bring a dose of excitement to a category of aircraft electronics that pilots often take for granted.
The antenna manufacturer has launched a series of general aviation antennas aimed at addressing a major trend in aircraft design: White is no longer the default color for airplane paint schemes.
New Look
RAMI’s new Shadow Line antennas feature a gloss-black finish designed to complement the more diverse color combinations that characterize modern aircraft styling. Beneath the new finish is the familiar RAMI equipment, manufactured and tested at the company’s Michigan factory and known for ruggedness and reliability.
Dean Bryce, international sales manager at RAMI, told The Aviation Consumer that many of the latest aircraft color schemes, whether on newly manufactured models, homebuilts, or recently repainted legacy airplanes, simply do not look their best with white antennas protruding from the airframe.
“Aircraft owners and operators expect every visible component to contribute to the overall appearance of their aircraft,” Bryce said. “I’m excited to bring RAMI’s Shadow Line to the market. Owners and operators have been asking for an antenna range with a modern, discreet finish that complements today’s aircraft paint schemes, without compromising performance. As a manufacturer, it’s rewarding to be able to deliver exactly that.”
Blends In Better
While designers in the apparel, household furnishing, appliance, and car industries have long suggested that black virtually “goes with everything,” aviation stuck with white for decades as the base color for aircraft paint. As a result, white became the standard for antennas and other exterior accessories.
Recently, though, manufacturers including Cirrus Aircraft, CubCrafters, Daher, and Diamond Aircraft have offered schemes with more color and minimal white surfaces. On those airplanes, a white antenna might lend an unfinished look.
RAMI’s advertising uses a dark, smoky background and dramatic lighting to accentuate the Shadow Line antennas’ contemporary appearance. Pilots might never again take their antennas for granted.
RAMI’s Shadow Line includes a range of VHF, GPS, transponder, marker beacon, collision avoidance, ELT, and special use antennas. They are available through the company’s worldwide network of distributors.
