Pilots of older Mooney M20s, including certain “short body” models now have more options when shopping for an autopilot, thanks to new certifications for Dynon avionics.

Dynon recently announced the FAA approval of its SkyView HDX autopilot for use in the Mooney M20C, D, E and F aircraft. Expansion to these 1960s-era models follows approval of the autopilot for the later M20J and M20K models in 2024.

Upgraded Capability

The modern, three-axis HDX autopilots include a yaw damper and are capable of flying approaches when used with a compatible IFR navigator. The SkyView HDX autopilot starts at $6,755 for the Mooney M20C-F series of airplanes.

The price includes all of the servo harnesses, brackets, and other hardware required for the installation. Options include the $697 SkyView autopilot control panel and the $352 knob control panel, which allows pilots to adjust altitude, heading, track and altimeter settings.

Pilots who wish to purchase the autopilot or other Dynon Certified equipment  can do so directly from Dynon or from any Dynon-authorized installation center
